The Last Beer

The Last Beer’ is a project that explores unconventional storytelling methods, instead of the traditional chronological timeline. I was initially inspired by Christopher Nolan’s movie Memento, which follows Leonard Shelby, a man who suffers from short-term memory loss after a traumatic incident. The film's narrative is structured in a non-linear fashion, with most scenes presented in reverse chronological order, mimicking Leonard's fragmented perception of time. He relies on Polaroids, tattoos, and written notes to piece together the previous days. Essentially, there are two sequences. One in color, which progresses backward in time, and one in black and white, which progresses in chronological order. The two sequences finally meet at the end of the movie, in what would otherwise be the middle of the story. ‘The Last Beer’ is told in a similar fashion, with one sequence of images being told backwards but in colour, and another told forwards but in black and white. The images tell the story of two friends who share a pack of beer, but as the night progresses and the beer runs low, chaos ensues. A fight begins over who should have the last beer, leaving the two out cold for the night. One of them wakes up disoriented and finds a stack of Polaroids taken the night before, which he uses to discover the location of that last beer. And with a final victorious bottle opening, he drinks the beer. While there might be some deeper messages about human nature tucked away in this project, my main goal was to bring you joy and laughter. I genuinely hope that viewers can find amusement in the absurdity of the story and have a good time with it.
